I visited 3260 West 8th Street in 1994 when I was checking street addresses for some of the major jazz clubs that flourished in Los Angeles during the 1950s. The Tiffany Club had long since ceased functioning as a jazz club or burlesque venue, it now catered to the neighborhood as a Mercado Y Panaderia. The old entry to the jazz club still functioned as a gateway to the interior with a metal folding gate that was closed during my visit. The essential structure of the building was intact, red tile roof, eight windows on the north facade second story, and graffitti below the windows.
A current google maps view of the address confirms that it is still catering to the same demographic – Carniceria – Panaderia – Tortilleria.
I’ve driven by this building many times. Thanks for the reminder to actually stop and go into the business next time the opportunity presents itself!
