SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT (12” LPs)M-11026 [1972]
The third 12” LP release of the Birth of the Cool sessions brought the marketing of these sessions full circle. The initial 10” LP releases had been marketed by Capitol as part of their “Classics in Jazz” series. The new marketing package released this music as part of their “Capitol Jazz Classics” series of LPs. The album cover design used a black & white sketch of the album artist with different background colors. The Miles Davis cover used a blue background.

Down Beat devoted a short column notice in their section covering reissues in the jazz field.

The liner notes quoted much of the same material presented in Part Four from Down Beat articles.

I owned a copy of the Capitol Jazz Classics LP re-release of these sessions for quite some time, because one of the initial CD releases of the sessions by Blue Note left the first note off "Venus de Milo", an egregious error! The revelation in the liner notes to the Rudy van Gelder (RVG edition) CD release, that all previous issues had never gone back to the original masters, obviously means that the RVG edition is now the new standard for these sessions.
